Starting a PhD in Biochemistry at Harvard during the 2008 financial crisis was a strange kind of awakening. While I spent my days running lab experiments and solving scientific problems, the world outside was unraveling. I watched people — smart, responsible people — lose decades of retirement savings almost overnight.
What shocked me wasn’t just the market crash. It was realizing that these people had done everything right according to the traditional advice: max out your 401(k), hold steady, stay diversified. And still, it failed them.
As a scientist trained at MIT and Harvard, I was taught to question assumptions and solve problems using first principles. So I started applying that same thinking to money.
Why was no one talking about strategies that protected wealth before a crash? Or ways to create financial freedom instead of waiting decades for retirement?
After earning my doctorate, I followed the expected path: landed a biotech job, contributed to my 401(k). But deep down, I knew I was still depending on things I couldn’t control — market cycles, tax laws, inflation, interest rates.
So I decided to do what scientists do best: experiment and explore new solutions.
Eventually, I found strategies that offered real guarantees — solutions that protected wealth from downturns while still allowing it to grow, created tax-free income, and eliminated the need to cross your fingers at retirement.
That was when everything changed.
As I kept learning I discovered alternative financial tools, innovative real estate strategies, and technology-driven approaches that are rarely mentioned.
